Dana Eness

Program Coordinator

Dana Eness first came to New Orleans in 1987 to pursue a Master’s degree in Latin American studies at Tulane University where she concentrated her studies in political science, history, and economics of 20th century Central America. Although originally from Iowa, she spent the year prior to moving to New Orleans in Central America, so the transition to New Orleans’ climate, culture, and cockroaches was an easy one. While in New Orleans, Dana has taught English as a second language, developed and managed cross-cultural programs, and advised students as assistant director for Tulane’s Center for International Students and Scholars.

Most recently, she was associate director for Prime Time Family Reading Time at the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, where she adapted Prime Time, a national reading and discussion program for at-risk readers and their parents, to a bilingual format for Spanish-speaking families. Dana has served on the board of StayLocal! since 2003, and lives in the Riverbend neighborhood with her husband, two children, and an enormous cat.
