Mandina’s Reopens in Mid-City

February 7, 2007

NEW ORLEANS — Canal Street landmark Mandina’s Restaurant reopened its signature pink eatery today after an 15-month renovation. The 75-year-old restaurant underwent a massive renovation to recover from extensive damage caused when Katrina’s floodwaters reached more than 5 feet high in the Mid-City area.

“We’re thrilled to return to New Orleans,” said Cindy Mandina, daughter of owner Tommy Mandina. “Our Mid-City tradition continues on Canal Street. Mandina’s is finally back and we couldn’t be happier.”

While the Canal Street location was being rebuilt, Mandina’s opened sites in Mandeville and Baton Rouge.

The Mandina family has owned and operated the restaurant on Canal Street since it opened originally as a neighborhood grocery store more than 80 years ago. The store evolved into Mandina’s Restaurant, a New Orleans’ eating establishments renowned for traditional fare such as trout almandine, homemade turtle soup, shrimp remoulade and rum-soaked Creole bread pudding.

Mandina’s locations are in New Orleans at 3800 Canal St., in Baton Rouge at 7655 Old Hammond Highway and in Mandeville at 4300 LA HWY 22.
