StayLocal kicks off the local holiday shopping season New Orleans style! Shop Small Second Line
This year StayLocal kicked off the local holiday shopping season with a Second Line to celebrate Small Business Saturday! Small Business Saturday is a national shopping holiday (after Black Friday and before Cyber Monday) that encourages consumers to shop local.
The StayLocal krewe, Soul Brass Band, Shop Small Santa, and New Orleanians from all over the city danced our way to four trailblazing businesses on historic St. Claude Ave! The New Orleans Healing Center also hosted a holiday pop-up market full of unique gifts.
We are proud to recognize this year's Shop Small Second Line Grand Marshal, Burnell Cotlon!
Cotlon is the owner and builder of the Lower 9th Ward Market. His store is the only grocery store in the 9th ward and it provides residents with fresh groceries and a family-friendly atmosphere. After Hurricane Katrina, big-box stores were reluctant to open in the 9th ward, so Cotlon took matters in to his own hands and opened a grocery store. Cotlon is a native New Orleanian and he knows our local businesses build stronger neighborhoods by protecting local character, sustaining communities, and linking neighbors.
